Thanks to all who took part. All schools left a very favourable impression of student behaviour, fair competition and tidiness. Great to see entrants putting such effort into doing well. The slower half seemed to experience map reading problems if they could not see the next control. Others showed obvious skill in navigating and map reading at speed - very impressive examples of what orienteering is all about. There were 18 controls and to accomplish about one control per minute is amazing!

MP = Missed punch or wrong control clip;
DNF = Did not finish;
Disq. = Disqualified (probably because of MP)
Student Punching Orienteering Control

There have been some enquiries about a National Year 7/8 Orienteering Competition. There is no official event, however as part of the NZ Secondary Schools National Champs the organising orienteering club has also staged a competitive event for Year 7/8 students. The Year 7/8 event has been put on because often there are year 7/8 pupils present who have travelled with their families. This year it is being hosted by the Hamilton Club, near Te Awamutu, on Friday 18th (Individual) and Saturday 19th July (Relays). Entries close 4th July. Further details can be found on the web site www.nzorienteering.com  (Home page, What's New, NZ Secondary Schools Champs Entry Form.)
