Great to have so many new people out on a beautifully fine evening. Welcome to the summer series of orienteering. Courses 1 and 2 had a good challenge in St Cuthberts School (we thank St Cuths for allowing us access to their grounds – we appreciate your cooperation) – there were a few testing controls in there while courses 1, 2 and 3 had a good challenge round the buildings in Cornwell Park school.

Many thanks to Annette Orchard and Jeff Greenwood for their well planned courses and all the other aspects of organizing an orienteering evening.

A special plea to course 1 competitors. Fences mapped with double lines are almost always to be considered as uncrossable – NOT TO BE CROSSED. 6 foot plus fences in the city are put up to keep people out and we are going to be most unpopular if orienteers are seen scaling them. We know you can, but PLEASE DONT! We spend a considerable amount of time and effort trying to persuade land owners that we can be trusted to do no harm – we will not be allowed back if you do not respect their property. Please, if you think there is any doubt about whether you should go somewhere, don’t go.

Next week our event is on THURSDAY – you have an 8 day wait!! We are on the Waiatarua map (adjoining the Remuera golf course in St Johns) – fully remapped after the complete revamp of the park by the City Council. Come and see if you can see the resident kotuku. We are starting from the carpark on Grand Drive, near the junction with Abbotts Way. Parking is limited in the carpark so it’ll have to be road parking in Grand Drive – (Abbott’s Way is probably too busy to park in). Course 1 will have some street orienteering but the other 3 courses will stay in the park.
