What a great day for spending in the forest – it really is lovely at this time of the year, isn’t it! It was so good to see so many people out enjoying it – especially those of you new to forest orienteering – we look forward to seeing you at future events. David, the controller of today’s event, has asked for special thanks to be given to all today’s helpers who made the event run smoothly. Orienteering is a fairly labour intensive sport so it is great when people so willingly give their time to ensure that the load is spread.
Next events are on May 1.
On this day there are two events. There is the Woodhill Forest run (that is a run with no controls) – funds raised help the orienteering juniors get to the Junior World Orienteering Champs in Switzerland later in the year. Details and entry at www.forestrun.co.nz . One the same day for those that must have controls to find on their run there is an event at Waiuku Forest – head south from Waiuku and look for O signs.There is NOT an event next weekend (24 April) as was advertised on the Summer Series flyer.
The big event coming up is the 3 day event over Queens Birthday. With 12 courses at each event there is one just right for all experiences and fitnesses so do pencil it in on your calendars.
Another activity for those keen to get fit – a group meet at the grandstand in the Domain every Tuesday at 6pm for a run. The pattern is, usually, a warm up, stretches, some interval training and a warm down. This is suitable for all abilities and everyone is encouraged to come along.
