Summer Series Results from Mt Roskill Schools 2/3/2016
We were deeply saddened to receive news of the untimely death of one of our club members, Gergo Verhas in a climbing accident on Monday on Mt Rolleston, Arthurs Pass. Gergo was a great friend and a valued member of the Auckland Orienteering Club. With his partner Kat, he was the planner for the Lloyd Elsmore Park Summer Nav event held just last week. Gergo also planned many of our forest events since he arrived in NZ 5 years ago. Our thoughts and condolences go to Kat and their families in Hungary and friends.
As a tribute to Gergo, and to support Kat and her extended family, the club is donating the proceeds of tonight’s event plus the previous two events to assist with costs. We are also setting up a fundraising page with the Alpine Club community (where Gergo was also very active) so a wider group of people can lend support to the Kat and family at such a difficult time.
Thanks to Kieran for a set of courses with interesting twists to keep us on our toes tonight – it certainly paid to read the control descriptions! It was great practice for those of us heading off to Wellington this weekend to the 6 sprint races and also those wanting to get in some practice before the start of the Schools Sprint competition.
Next week the event moves to THURSDAY, 11th February in Cornwall Park. The event centre will be in the Archery Car Park off Bollard Ave which is the extension of Twin Oak Drive – entry from either Manukau Rd or Greenlane Rd.
