A beautiful evening, a refreshing breeze, lots of people, a beautiful park and some good courses all combined to make for a great evening in the Domain tonight. It was lovely to see so many youth groups taking part tonight – I think it may have almost been a record for the number of different packs on one night. Our thanks to Paul and Neill for tonight’s courses. They had to spend a long time investigating the state of the park following the cyclone and rejigging the courses accordingly. As those of you on the longer courses will have seen, along with so many other places around Auckland, the bush area of the park took a severe hammering with huge trees down over the often washed away paths. The work that is going to be needed to repair the damage everywhere is quite overwhelming.
We were also incredibly lucky last Saturday night to have a most beautiful evening out at Ambury Park for our night event. Again there was a great turn out and everyone was treated to a fun time exploring the park by night on Simon and Martin’s great courses. It was quite some sight out on the park with the lights from the houses across the water twinkling in the distance and the park covered in a maze of little lights zigzagging through the darkness.
With the days starting to shorten Summernav is fast drawing to a close with only 2 more events remaining. Next week we move to WEDNESDAY at Panmure Basin, starting by the model railway in Petersen St, off Waipuna Rd (beside Waipuna Lodge). All course will be treated to a short explore of the model railway to finish of their course! We look forward to seeing you there.
To all club members heading down to Taupo this weekend to take part in the interclub Night relays, have a great time at what must be one of the highlights of the orienteering year. Go AOC!!!
