38th SummerNav Panmure Basin Event: 14 2026-02-26

This is a special week. As well as tonight’s event we have one on Saturday too. This Saturday we have our night event (yes, really in the dark) on Hamlins Hill (Penrose - access from 1014 Gt Sth Rd with plenty of parking through the gate). Starts from about 8.30pm depending on when it gets dark, but youngsters can start from about 8.15. We are using electronic timing so those who have an e-card bring it along. For those with clever e-cards please bring your SIAC card because we have air activated. If this doesn't mean anything to you don't worry, we have e-cards that we can loan you. Make sure you bring a good headlamp which will last your course. Also, good footwear for going over the mountain. There will also be a first-in first-served BBQ to warm you up at the end.

Next week we change to Tuesday (the 3rd) and we are at the Owairaka Park starting at the end of Hendon Ave, Mt Albert. This is the first time we’ve used this place for starting a SummerNav. For most of you it’ll be a new part of the map.

Tonight was a very nice night for a run round the Basin, made especially nice by the cooling breeze. When the tide was in, lots of fish were seen jumping and some people were swimming off the wharf. Thanks very much to Sienna and Stephen for the all the work they put into tonight’s courses. It was very tricky organising the event with multiple maps and scales.
