A very big thank you to Sofia, Danial and Mark for getting the event together for tonight. With a mixture of COVID and protesters this has to have been one of our more challenging events, but Mark kept adapting to the changing circumstance to ensure the event could go ahead. Then magically a few hours before the event the Domain was cleared and the road reopened! I hope the concerns did not put too many of you off coming to what turned out to be a great evening. As on a particular night there are now quite a few people unable to come because they are isolating, we will again start converting these last couple of events into a map run event. They will not be available until the week after the event to give us time to get them into Maprun but if you were unable to come tonight then once you are back on deck you can go into Maprun, find your course, print a map and go for a run.

If you missed out tonight you can still get your orienteering fix this week. This SATURDAY NIGHT we have our SummerNav night event on Hamlins Hill. Entry beside 1014 Great South Rd. We will be using electronic timing at this event so don’t forget your e card if you own one.  If not, we will loan you one for free. Because of limited numbers this is again a pre-entry only event and as we have to get the entries into the computer you must enter before 6pm on Saturday. You cannot just come along and enter once there. Don’t forget your headlamp or torch (with good batteries)! Younger competitors can start at dusk (about 8.15, or maybe a bit earlier depending on the evening) and others when it gets properly dark – probably somewhere between 8.30 and 8.45. Last start 9.15.  There are 3 courses available, a bit shorter than usual as it takes somewhat longer in the dark and we don’t want people out there tooo long – course 1 is 4.1km, course 2 is 3.0km and course 3 is 1.9km – course 3 will be a moderate difficulty, 1 and 2 harder (nothing is easy in the dark!)

Club members, Sunday is the last day to register for the Katoa Po Night Relays at Taupo which are on the following weekend. These are always a really fun event and they are being run to ensure everyone will be in a safe environment. You can camp out at the event so this is a great opportunity to have a little break away, out in the open air and help your club to win the Night Relay trophy (of course I want this to be Auckland!!). Look on your club website for details

Next week is the second to last event of our SummerNav season. It is on WEDNESDAY 9th March at Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga. The event centre is beside Bells Rd off Pakuranga Highway, close to the athletics track

If you would like to be entertained with some action (and some not quite so much action) shots from our SummerNav events and their environs over the last few weeks go to
