It is hard to believe that tonight was the second to last event for SummerNav this season. Our thanks to Gavin for tonight’s courses and to the team of helpers that made the event happen – Ali, Selwyn, Martin, Sandra, Marcus, Sam,  Reuban and Matthew.

Saturday night also saw our night event of the season on Hamlins Hill, and our thanks go to Ferguson, Alexandra and Martin for this event. Night events are fun to take part in but it means a very late night for those who remain to get in all the controls at the end!

The final event of the season next week is on TUESDAY, 15th March at Western Springs, starting from Stadium Rd. We look forward to seeing you there.

However, this does not mean the end of orienteering – quite the opposite, it signals the start of a very full calendar of events for the remainder of the year. Full details of the calendar can always be found on the AOC website but below is a taste of what is happening for the rest of this month

This weekend sees many of us heading down to Taupo to the annual interclub Night Relay competition – Katoa Po – always a highlight of the year. The following weekend there is a double header, hosted by NWOC with an AOS event on both Saturday and Sunday in north Woodhill. These events will have courses suitable for all levels of experience, from first timers up. For those of you who find Sunday difficult this is your opportunity for a forest event on a Saturday. As for all events at the moment, these are pre-entry events so go to the NWOC website for details

To complete March, on Sunday 27th March CMOC is hosting an Urban Rogaine – quoting from their website

‘Come along for a day of exciting and challenging urban orienteering around Pukekohe, and help raise funds for the CMOC Development Academy. Teams of two to four people can compete in the most fun “three-hour tour” you’ll ever experience, navigating to controls and enjoying the urban terrain.’ – see the CMOC websites for details.

This may not offer quite the challenge of the GODZONE event going on in Fiordland and Central Otago at present but is sure to be fun. If you have not been following GODZONE go to its webpage and see what some of our top, hard men and women of orienteering are doing at the moment – all day and all night for 6 plus days – guaranteed to make you exhausted just looking at the terrain they are finding their way through, but oh so envious of the wonderful scenery and fascinating terrain they are in.
