It is very nice to be out by the sea orienteering. Some of us had to leave the sea far behind at times and that wasn’t so much fun!! Thanks very much to the Counties Manukau Club for running todays event, especially the Peat family and the Robinsons. AOC members very much enjoyed the opportunity to simply go out and enjoy the orienteering.

It was great to see lots of new people out in Woodhill forest last Sunday – what a lovely day to be in the forest. We do hope you all enjoyed yourselves and look forward to seeing you, plus those of you who could not make it, at some of the other forest events coming up. There is plenty of orienteering coming up. Next week we have the summer series event on TUESDAY (26th) on the Big King map. We are meeting in the car park on the corner of Mt Eden Rd and Mt Albert Rd but well into the car park behind the supermarket.

This Sunday (24th) there is a summer series event on the Massey University campus at Albany. This is the first time we have had a Sunday event as part of the Summer Series so it is a great opportunity for those of you who find it a struggle to get there in the evenings – no rush hour traffic to fight either! Get there using State Highway 17 and then enter the Campus at gate 1. Starts are between 10am and noon.

Next Wednesday (27th) there is an event at Totara Park being organized by the Counties Manukau club. The start times are 5:30 to 6:45pm. Use the Southern Motorway and exit at Manurewa and head east on Hill Rd and left on to Wairere Rd and go to the end.

On Sunday the 2nd of March is the first of the OY series – an opportunity for all to have a great day of orienteering. The event is on most fascinating farm land with amazing rock features. There are a full range of courses so there will be one that suits everyone. We’d love to have you all there. The map is called Huriwai and it is near the coast on the southern side of the Waikato heads. You have to cross the Waikato River near Tuakau and the head to the coast near to the river. At Waikato Heads you climb into the hills and head south – not too far.

Best wishes to the numerous summer series orienteers going down to the Hawkes Bay this weekend to run the arduous Kaweka Mountain race. Also we wish the women adventure racers all the best for their event. We look forward to hearing all about it!
